Installation

Innocence is the greatest casualty

Installation Piece // 2019

An installation of a small circular mirror hung on the far end of a room with the words “Innocence is the biggest casualty of violent acts” written in a circle around the mirror. There is a childhood video playing from across the room casting a shadow onto the viewers reflection as they stand in front of the mirror. There is a halo of light surrounding the back of their heads as they are forced to see themselves amidst the children laughing and playing on the wall in front of them. It is an experience meant to invoke nostalgia for a simpler time and make the viewer question their own innocence in the world.

Installation Piece // 2019

This installation began with a normal room with a rug, lamp and armchair. It seems like a normal and even boring scene, but as the viewer walks around they feel something under their feet. It is a surprise as the rug is lifted and out pours over a hundred kit-kat wrappers with individual hand written messages on each one. with this piece it's all about what is brushed under the rug. My mother used to tell me consistently "food does not equal love" and this installation addressed the impacts that this type of control over the idea of food could have on a person. This also discusses the need to hide our problems and the pressure from society to brush it under the rug.

Installation Piece // 2019

Our heights are marked on the wall and in between those two pencil lines is my scrunchie, her watch, and our sweater. Sometimes clothing is the best way to tie ourselves to the people in our past.  Her sweater is now mine and it shows everything of hers that I carry on my body, in my heart and all the memories in between. I always wanted to be you when I grew up.
